Anonymous $100,000 donation impacts four scholarships

On this year’s National Day of Giving, November 29, one community member presented a gift that will impact the lives and futures of others for years to come. The gift was a $100,000 donation to the Patrick Henry Community College Foundation. Last year, the same donor, who wishes to remain anonymous, created four scholarships with her first donation of $100,000. This year, her second donation deepens the impact of each scholarship.

The donation goes towards the Shelley Frith Drane Performing Arts Memorial Scholarship, the Mary Grace Adkins Culinary Arts Memorial Scholarship, the Melvin L. Adkins Agribusiness Memorial Scholarship and the James Burness Frith Business Administration Memorial Scholarship. These four scholarships were created in memory of these late members of the Frith and Adkins families.

"The PHCC Foundation is once again so grateful to be the recipient of another major gift from this donor,” remarked Dr. Greg Hodges, Vice President for Institutional Advancement, Effectiveness, and Campus Life at PHCC. “Simply put, these donations are life-changing for students. The fact that it was brought in on the National Day of Giving makes it even more special."

The Shelley Frith Drane Performing Arts Memorial Scholarship benefits students in PHCC’s performing arts program. The Mary Grace Adkins Culinary Arts Memorial Scholarship supports students in PHCC’s culinary arts program. The Melvin L. Adkins Agribusiness Memorial Scholarship is awarded to students who are enrolled in the agribusiness program at PHCC. The James Burness Frith Business Administration Memorial Scholarship aids students enrolled in PHCC’s business administration program.

Each scholarship is offered through the PHCC Foundation. For more information about the scholarship or how to donate to these or other causes, contact Letitia Pulliam at or 276-656-0250.

The Patrick Henry Community College Foundation is a not-for profit organization that is fiscally and organizationally separate from the college.
