Big league pitcher headlines baseball fundraising dinner

Former major leaguer Randy Tomlin will speak at a fundraising dinner sponsored by the Patrick Henry Community College (PHCC) baseball team. The inaugural First Pitch Dinner is Saturday, January 28 at 6 p.m. followed by a silent auction that includes Atlanta Braves and Washington Nationals tickets.

“We’re excited to give our Patriots and our community an opportunity to meet each other and hear first-hand from Randy Tomlin how a fellow Virginian made it to the big leagues,” says PHCC’s baseball coach Frank Jagoda.

Tomlin was drafted by the Pittsburgh Pirates in 1988 and made his Major League Baseball debut in 1990 and went on to win the Pirate Organizational Pitcher of the Year that season. The former Liberty University Flame worked at LU for several years before taking a position with the Washington Nationals. He is currently the head coach at Liberty Christian Academy in Lynchburg.

The fundraising dinner is in PHCC’s Stone Hall. Tickets are $40 and can be purchased at the Patrick Henry Community College switchboard in West Hall or by contacting head baseball coach Frank Jagoda at 276- 656-5462 or . All proceeds directly support PHCC men’s baseball team.
