Mindfulness workshops for Patriots and community

PHCC's Spanish Instructor, Dr. Eric-Gene Shrewsbury, started a movement in the summer of 2015 that he hoped would develop into a revolution of mental and emotional wellness on campus.

Shrewsbury is introducing the practice of mindfulness to PHCC. Mindfulness encourages exercising awareness to reduce stress and distraction. In 2015, Shrewsbury’s mindfulness movement began with a small group of faculty and staff. This semester, he is inviting the entire campus and community to join.

The following workshops discuss how mindfulness can aid in a variety of potentially stressful situations. All workshops are free and open to the public:

-  Tips on How to Study
On Wednesday, February 22 from 11:30 to 12:30 in West Hall 209

-  Am I Too Old to Learn?
For adult learners on Wednesday, March 8 from 11:30 to 12:30 in West Hall 209

-  Introduction to Meditation
On Thursday, March 30 from noon to 1 p.m. in West 306

-  Mindfulness Meditation
On Wednesday, April 26 from 11:30 to 12:30 in West 209

No prior experience with mindfulness or meditation is necessary. Lunch is provided for the workshop on March 8. Shrewsbury also offers four-week long mindfulness classes. Introduction to Mindfulness starts March 7. Mindfulness 2.0 begins April 4. Both classes cost $45 and are available through PHCC’s Workforce, Economic, and Community Development division.
