PHCC presents March Student Success Award

Patrick Henry Community College’s (PHCC) president, Dr. Angeline Godwin, presented the March Student Success Award to Sidney Coulson. Coulson was nominated by her volleyball coach Kelly Proffitt.

Coulson embraced the idea of exploring new opportunities in college when she decided to learn how to play volleyball.

“She came to our workouts and open gyms last spring just to learn,” says Coach Proffitt.  Even though she had no prior experience with volleyball, Coulson picked up what she could. “By asking questions and working hard, she made the 2016 PHCC Volleyball Team. By the end of the season, she had worked her way into our lineup in matches,” says Proffitt.

Then in 2017, Coulson joined the softball team as well despite the fact she had very limited experience with the game.

“She’s a ball of positive energy and enthusiasm,” explains Proffitt.

While giving her all on the field and the court, Coulson also is a full-time student with a 3.0 GPA and a part-time employee at Chick-Fil-A in Martinsville. During the summer, Coulson serves as a 4-H Camp Counselor and Camp Coordinator.
